Reinhard Bersch's final Fastnacht.

Fastnacht is the name for carnival time in the Mainz region. Fastnacht is the night before the fasting of Lent though its origins go back to pagan Roman festivals celebrating the end of winter. It's a period of wild celebration.

At Fastnacht there are special costumes for the carnival society members with distinctive headgear.

For one last time the mayor of Bischofsheim, Reinhard Bersch, must be arrested by the Carnival committee henchmen and hand over his premises to the 'fastnacht people'. With this traditional ceremony the BCV started off the street fastnacht day with a 70 float procession that sidled its way through Bischofsheim's streets. There were almost as many taking part as watching.
