CANTA's 2011 English Summer School

Our English language Summer Schools are open to citizens of our twin towns. They are designed to give practice in the use of the language and to show our European friends something of our culture and our way of life. CANTA members act as hosts and organise out of class activities.

Five mornings are spent in class. Here the students are given the opportunity to practise the language in a range of different situations. The rest of the time is devoted to visits to places of interest and social events. The informal get-togethers are seen as very important, giving the participants time to relax and the opportunity to get to know their hosts. The course was held, as last year, in the Ramada Encore hotel in Crewe.

This year's programme of activities is given below:
Visit to Nantwich.
Skittles and carvery at the Bickerton Poacher.
Visit to Quarry Bank Mill in Styal.
BBQ at Carol and Trevor Lightfoot's home.
Visit to Chester.
Evening Meal at the Peacock in Nantwich.
Visit to the Hat Museum in Stockport.
Evening meal in 'The English Dining Room', a working farm.
Visit to Little Moreton Hall, a Tudor house and its Knott Garden.
Carribean Evening at The Ramada Hotel.
Visit to Liverpool.
Lunchtime buffet at Carol and Trevor Lightfoot's.

As far as we can tell the week was a great success with overwhelmingly positive feedback. A tour through our collection of photographs will give a flavour of the event. We will add more images as we receive them.

Currently we have a report, published in the newspaper 'Mainspitze', of the views of the German participants - with an English translation
a gallery of images from Walter Beck.
and a signed photograph of the course members presented to us at the farewell dinner.
