Brennfix - the gas poker made in Bischofsheim

On the 11th April 1939 a patent from a Bischofsheim engineer for a new way of lighting a range was registered by the Patent Office in Berlin. The device was made by Adam Horst in the old cheese factory, later the Horst printing works, at 26 Spelzengasse. It was sold throughout Germany and Austria and was only discontinued after the war when it was no longer possible to connect to newer gas cookers. There were a lot of disappointed housewives. You can clearly see how it worked from the diagram below which was submitted as part of the patent application. No longer did housewives need to use paper and kindling wood and lots of matches to get their range lit.
