Flooding in Bishofsheim.

Visitors to Bischofsheim in the summer may well have walked upon the summer dyke pictured below, with the Main river off to the right. However this January the local paper, 'LOKAL-ANZEIGER für die Orte der Mainspitze', showed the effects of the rapid thaw on river levels. During the week after the snow melt the water several times almost topped the dyke, just missing by a few centimetres. However this flood protection has been rendered obsolete by a decision to allow the water to flood an area behind this dyke as far as the winter dike. This area is not to be cultivated.
